Description

Organized on may 27th 1863 by the division of the leon artillery battery of florida. The battery was to see service within the confines of florida and did not see any significant engagement in battle.The flag is a two sided flag made of silk and, of rectangular shape: 32″ x 44″ with a metallic fringe, common with early war units. Unlike other units the unit kept this flag until the end of the war and, retained by unit members after surrender. The obverse side bears an embroidered wreath with the unit’s name, the date 1863 and the motto dieu et mon droit (god and my right) on a white back-ground. Reverse bears the st. Andrew’s cross. Flag is associated with captain patrick houston the second officer to command the battery
