Typical of national flag variants which, were carried at both regimental and company level at the opening of hostilities. Following loosely the u.S. Army pattern for cavalry standards these flags would carry a canton of blue with normally 34 stars in various formations and, seven red and six white stripes. It was also common practice to provide the flag with a gold fringe. As to the regimental flag this had followed the known patterns for the accepted flag with the national arms upon the observe and reverse with regimental designation appearing on the red scrolls. This example would be common amongst cavalry companies during the opening of the war.
