Although governed by u.S. Army regulations these flags were to follow the recognized pattern for infantry units, in the case for the national flag. Regimental designation would appear in stencil upon the flag. As to the regimental flag measuring six feet in the fly and, the hoist being five and a half feet, this flag bore a central image of crossed cannon in gold upon a yellow field. Above and below the crossed cannons are two red scrolls which bear regimental designation in gold stenciled letters. The regimental flag also had a gold fringe. As these flags were issued to artillery regiments it is likely that they remained with regimental staffs and, were not carried into action with individual batteries on active campaign.
