Description
3rd confederate infantry regimentorganised by the confederate governments re-designation of the 18th (marmadukes) infantry regiment on january 31st 1862. Unit saw service in the western theatre and, later service as part of cleburnes division. Consolidated with the 5th confederate infantry regiment in late 1863. Further consolidations in april 1865 with the 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 13th, 15th & 24th arkansas infantry regiments.Battles: shiloh, corinth campaign, perryville, munfordville,, murfreesboro, chigamauga, chattanooga siege, chattanooga, atlanta campaign, new hope church, kennesaw mountain, atlanta siege, jonesboro, franklin, nashville, carolinas campaign, bentonville. Hardee type battleflag, issued prior to th battle of shiloh. Unit designation and crossed cannons (in black) battle honours in white. Flag captured at the battle of jonesboro.
