3rd louisiana infantry regimentorganised in may 1861,at new orleans. Unit saw service in the western theatre. Regiment surrendered at vicksburg, exchanged september 1863, consolidation with the 13th, 21st, 22nd, 26th, 27th, 29th & 31st infantry regiments in january 1864.Battles: wilsons creek, pea ridge, elk horn tavern, corinth campaign, farmington, iuka, corinth, vs. Greenville expedition, haynes & snyder bluffs, vicksburg campaign, vicksburg siege, mobile spanish fort. Flag presented to the unit by major general maury in august 1863. Beauregard type battleflag, with unit designation and battle honours. The original is housed in the confederate memorial hall in new orleans. Prior to this the unit carried an unmarked van dorn battleflag, subsequently captured at iuka.
