Austin’s battery organized with men from the 11th louisiana infantry regiment. The unit was to serve as infantry with the army of tennessee and, later the department of alabama, mississippi and east louisiana. Battles; perryville, murfreesboro, chigamauga, chattanooga siege, chattanooga, atlanta, ezra church, atlanta siege, jonesboro, franklin, nashville, mobile.The flag is typical of a mobile made flag, the placement of the inverted cannons led to its captors believing that the flag belonged to an artillery battery. Second national flag with twelve stars and no central star. Unit designation, honours and inverted cannons in red stencil. The original is held in the collections at the memorial hall, new orleans, louisiana.5th company washington artillerythe washington artillery battalion of new orleans would provide five companies for confederate service.
