Description

The flag is a 1st national variant with the flag conforming to the known pattern of this flag. The only exception was the arrangement of stars upon the canton. The forming of the thirteen stars, in the shape of a letter “a” made this flag unique in national flags. The flag hoist is fifty three inches and, the fly seventy eight inches. The flag served as general lee’s headquaters flag from june 1862 through the summer of 1863 and,is belived to have been made by the general’s wife mary custis and their daughters. The original is in the collections of the museum of the confederacy, richmond, virginia.
